Motherhood, weight gain and Aishwariya

Weight gain: What's the fuss about? It's normal, says Aishwariya.

Being a mother myself, I can safely say that having a child is one of the most precious moments of your life. Suddenly you’re not only thinking about yourself but this new beautiful being who you’ve been blessed with. Mere mortals such as me find the idea of getting right back into shape one of the last things on our minds.

Pressure

These days the pressure is mounting for new mums to lose weight fast. It doesn’t help when some celebrities snap right back into shape just having had their babies. Recently I saw a picture of Megan Fox who gave birth some 3 months looking her usual skinny self. I wondered where the baby fat had disappeared to. How? What? Is it even possible?

A lot of people argue that since celebrities are constantly in the public eye, it is their job to look good, after all their appearance is a big part of their appeal. We want to see beautiful perfect looking people on celluloid and television. Don’t we?

Enjoy motherhood

Not for Aishwarya Rai though. The much loved stunning Bollywood actress with eyes to die for and numerous hit films under her belt is the more recent celebrity to be in the focus for not having lost weight she gained after having her baby daughter Araadhyaa.

Aishwarya has been lambasted in the media and by fans for not paying much attention to losing weight she gained since having her baby girl who is now a year old.  The actress herself has maintained that she was in no hurry to lose weight and simply wanted to ‘enjoy motherhood’.

It’s normal

Finally in a recent interview with the British TV personality Sir David Frost, Aishwarya said the following about the media hype around pregnancy weight gain: ‘What’s the fuss about? It’s normal." PHOTO: DigitalSpy.co.uk

Finally in a recent interview with the British TV personality Sir David Frost, Aishwarya said the following about the media hype around pregnancy weight gain: ‘What’s the fuss about? It’s normal; it was natural in my case. That was the natural turn that my body took whether I gained weight or had water retention or whatever else that goes with the space. I was comfortable and that’s why I’ve been who I’ve been. I stepped out in public when I could take time out from my baby. And if I did think it was a big deal I would’ve been in hiding or done something about it. Everything is accessible today. We all know the incredible progress science has made so if you want to lose it overnight it is possible. But that’s not the choice I was making and I pretty much made that evident. I wasn’t disturbed by it as I was busy leading a busy life with my baby.’

Later in the interview Aishwarya joined Sir David Frost for some Indian food in a fancy restaurant stating: ‘I love food. I’ve never dieted. The only thing I work on is quantity but I’ve never stopped myself from any particular cuisines. I love home food the most.’

Superwoman

Opinions may differ on this one but I think most people, especially new mums, would agree that Aishwarya made the right decision in not letting the public pressure get to her. By just enjoying motherhood without focussing so much on her exterior she became much of a role model to many including myself. You go girl!
